Crochet Cupcake Turtle: An Adorable & Easy Crochet Project 🐢🧁
I recently made these little cuties and knew I had to share it because this pattern was such a fun project!
If you love quick crochet projects that turn into something absolutely adorable, this is definitely one to add to your list. I found the pattern easy to follow, and it worked up pretty quickly—which is always a win in my mind!
The Crochet Pattern
Pattern Used: HappyTurtleCrochet – Cupcake Turtle Crochet Pattern
For my cupcake turtle, I used the Cupcake Turtle Crochet Pattern by HappyTurtleCrochet. It is a cute, beginner-friendly project and there are so many ways you can customize your turtle by changing the yarn colors. Please note: The crochet pattern belongs to HappyTurtleCrochet. I am simply sharing the pattern I used to create my own cupcake turtles and the supplies I personally used.
Supplies I Used
One of my favorite things about this project is that you don't need a huge list of supplies. I’m linking the products I used below for convenience in case you'd like to make one too!
Yarn
For the turtle's body, I used Bernat Blanket Super Bulky in Vintage White.
For the cupcake portion, I used Bernat Blanket Super Bulky in Misty Green.
For the turtle's body, I used Bernat Blanket Super Bulky Acrylic Yarn in Almond.
For the cupcake portion, I used Yarn Bee Cozy Occasion Yarn in Mulberry It Over from Hobby Lobby.
For the turtle's body, I used Bernat Blanket Super Bulky in Lovely Blue.
For the cupcake portion, I used Bernat Blanket Super Bulky in Vintage White.
The pattern calls for bulky yarn, so you can have a lot of fun with this part! Choose your favorite colors, mix and match shades, or create different cupcake "flavors." Chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, birthday cake—the possibilities are endless! 🧁
I did make a modification on the flame and I used 18 mm eyes instead of 16 mm eyes.
For the sprinkles I used Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in a variety of colors. (The possibilities are endless.)
Crochet Hook
The original pattern calls for a 4.5 mm crochet hook, but I decided to size up and used a 7.5 mm crochet hook for mine.
That's one of the things I love about crochet—you can experiment with different yarn and hook combinations to create the look and size you want.
Safety Eyes
I used UPINS 18mm Glitter Safety Eyes.
I love the little bit of sparkle they add! They give the turtle so much personality and make those adorable little faces stand out even more.
Safety note: Safety eyes can pose a choking hazard and are generally not recommended for toys intended for babies or very young children. Embroidered eyes are a great alternative.
Stuffing
For stuffing, I used Fairfield Poly-Fil Original Premium Polyester Fiber Fill.
I like to add the stuffing gradually so I can shape the turtle as I go. You want it nice and squishy while still giving the turtle enough structure to hold its shape.
✨ And Then I Added a Little Something Extra...
Because apparently I can't leave well enough alone when I am in the zone. 😂 I also 3D printed a few little extras to make my cupcake turtles even cuter! That's one of my favorite things about having so many different crafting hobbies—I can mix crochet and 3D printing together and create something that is oh so good to something oh so great! I used the Bambu Lab P2S Combo, P2S 3D Printer & AMS 2 Pro to print the extras. While I can go on and on about this printer- I will just say if you are thinking about getting one, take this as your sign to get it! I will be creating a blog post about this soon so stay tuned!
My Final Thoughts
I really enjoyed making these Crochet Cupcake Turtles. They're cute, customizable, fairly quick to work up, and the finished turtles make the sweetest little gifts—or adorable additions to a craft table or handmade shop.
And let's be serious... once you make one color combination, you're probably going to start thinking about the next one. 😂
